Nights and weekends

Has any other administration ever taken such drastic efforts to release information as late as possible or under such unfavorable circumstances? On weekends and holidays, if at all? I think Terry Mc. has every reason to ask that question.
I know — you were thinking I was going to talk about my AT&T cell phone plan requiring monthly calls to Customer Service to get them to take $700 off the bill. But I'm not really going to talk about how incredibly stupid they are.

Terry McAuliffe Highly Questionable

DRUDGE REPORT FLASH 2004?: "'The supposed discovery of these records on Friday afternoon, as reporters converge on Boston to cover the Democratic National Convention, is highly questionable."

I bet The Onion picks up on this trend

Elites, Pacifism and the End of Western Civ

One should always quote Orwell with trepidation. He spent an almost equal portion of his life working each side of the fence. A young, fiercely anti-colonial colonial administrator in his early years, and later a patriot deeply concerned with the true motives of all governments. It was the latter period that gave us Animal Farm and 1984.

But Terrence's last post brought to mind something of his I was reading a few days ago - Notes on Nationalism (May, 1945) - where Orwell neatly skewers those who would have us believe that their side is completely righteous and above reproach. What is most interesting is that he accomplishes this while also maintaining that Moral Relativism is evil as well. A neat trick.

The most salient part of his piece is the portion that deals with modern pacifism. It rings as true today as I'm sure it did in 1945. He also reminds us that while we see that era through the lens of The Good War and The Greatest Generation, they were also struggling with their Chomsky's, Moore's and Buchanan's as well as Fascism and Communism. Another neat trick.

I'm just going to paraphrase the portion on Modern Pacifism - but I highly recommend d/l'ing and reading the piece in it's entirety. It is better then 90% of what I read getting a Poli Sci degree.
The majority of pacifists either belong to obscure religious sects or are simply humanitarians who object to the taking of life and prefer not to follow their thoughts beyond that point. But there is a minority of intellectual pacifists whose real though unadmitted motive appears to be hatred of western democracy and admiration of totalitarianism. Pacifist propaganda usually boils down to saying that one side is as bad as the other, but if one looks closely at the writings of younger intellectual pacifists, one finds that they do not by any means express impartial disapproval but are directed almost entirely against Britain and the United States. Moreover they do not as a rule condemn violence as such, but only violence used in defense of western countries. The Russians, unlike the British, are not blamed for defending themselves by warlike means, and indeed all pacifist propaganda of this type avoids mention of Russia or China. [ . . . ] After the fall of France, the French pacifists, faced by a real choice which their English colleagues have not had to make, mostly went over to the Nazis, and in England there appears to have been some small overlap of membership between the Peace Pledge Union and the Blackshirts.

I believe that it was Stalin who used to remark that "we will hang the last capitalist with the rope he sold us." I am beginning to believe that Radical Islam will nuke us with material that we allowed him to get rather than risk looking like knuckle dragging racists - And Moore, et al will cheer the fallout as proof that we finally got what was coming to us.
No snark. Just download and read the damn thing.

All your base are belong to us

It's one thing to be an Intellectual and anther thing entirely to be part of the "Intellectual Class". In the end the Intellectual Class is no different than any other group of self gratifiers like the religious Right, Pro-Choice, or The LGBT Animal Liberation Front. What about Freethought?

W is just another big spending, tell you how to live your life politician. Were it not for Radical Islam, I wouldn't vote for the man. Hell I didn't vote for him the first time around. I'd be voting for Michael Badnarik (If elected we'd call him the Coder in Chief) if I didn't fundamentally disagree with how Kerry is going to deal with the Middle East.

One cannot be a leader if you are too busy looking over your shoulder wondering if people will still like you. We've had 12 years of that and like it or not W is a leader.

Bush has chosen to confront them. He hopes that once Iraq has Democracy the rest of the middle east will follow. Will this work? I don't know. It's from an old play book. It may fail miserably. I do know that negotiations with them will not work. Maintaining the Status Quo will not work. We've tried those already. Pushing Israel get pushed into the Mediterranean Sea will not work. They will still be unhappy about the dominance of Western Culture.

What would I do? I've long felt that we need to turn the Middle East into glass. I've felt this way prior to 9/11. So in my mind Bush's attempt is the better than ignoring, negotiating or nuking.

All About the Posts

I believe all of the posters are doing a superb job. I see no need to read anything deeper into the timings or mistimings or untimings or what-have-you. Everyone is doing a superb job of bringing together all of the information we need to make informed decisions. Because, decisions are what we do here. Our decisions matter. And matter should be informed. You are all strong bliggers, and the American people owe you a debt of gratitude.
Go on, make fun of my side. Two can play that game. Which is not to say that I am on the side of the French. Goodness, no. I am on the side of the intellectual class, and I'm getting tired of us (forgive me for thinking I'm an intellectual) being slandered as being elite. Bush addressed a crowd of wealthy patrons, "Some call you the elite. I think of you as my base." a) He caters to the real elite. b) Someone made a pretty funny pun for GW.

YATP

One again, I must seriously question the timing of the last post. Coming as it does so quickly after the previous post, it almost begs the question - "What is he really trying to post?"

Now is not the time for the release of that information, and we again question the motive or motives of the individual or individuals who have leaked this information. What are they really trying to accomplish by releasing this information?

The timing has been questioned, and it will continue to be questioned.
I question the timing of this wristwatch, and I have issues with Dr. Suess' credentials! But I take comfort in the fact that the word "comfort" has two 'o's', the most comfortable letter in the alphabet.

In France respect is defined as bending over and grabbing both ankles.

Timing

I seriously question the timing of that last post. Obviously the intent of releasing that information now serves merely to obfuscate the issues. Until they are willing to deal with the issues at hand, rather then pushing their own partisan agenda and their own warped timeline, this is the mess we will find ourselves in.

I mean seriously, pants?
Make sure the lad gets registered for his absentee ballot - easier then ever to get registered in FL, I hear.

Sure, Congress Wants to Investigate Now

Listen, sometimes there are things I just don't get into. I'm not talking about things like the music of the Dixie Chicks or the Macarena, I'm talking about the Republicans picking NYC for their convention site and Sandy Berger shoving classified objects down his pants. Clearly, Sandy shouldn't have done that, much like I shouldn't have tried the Macarena (which is not the forbidden dance, but should be).

Anyway, if I was going to talk about Sandy, I would seriously have to equate it with the Plame thing. After all, both were serious breaches of national security (although only one of them involved actually breeches — oh, I slay). However, one was clearly sacrificing national security for political retribution. I can't even say what the hell was going through Sandy's mind.
I have the boy in FL through the first week in August — w00t! — and am preoccupied with setting up play dates with his cousins, getting him out to the beach, and making sure that he gets to watch my brother's snake consume a mouse. Sorry if I'm slacking a little on the blog.

Crack Anti-Terrorism Team

As in, the anti terrorism team that generally gives the impression that they are ingesting crack cocaine:

In the next frame (unavailable) the entire stack of docs on the table in front of them disappear into Sandy's hollow exoskeleton.

We used to have a liberal on this site. I hope that the Joe Wilson Implosion and the Sandy B Paper Chase hasn't driven him into hiding.

Sorry!

Sorry your classified docs smell like ass. Some of them should smell like feet, though.

[Former National Security Adviser Sandy] Berger and his lawyer said Monday night he knowingly removed the handwritten notes by placing them in his jacket, pants and socks, and also inadvertently took copies of actual classified documents in a leather portfolio

"I deeply regret the sloppiness involved, but I had no intention of withholding documents from the commission, and to the contrary, to my knowledge, every document requested by the commission from the Clinton administration was produced," Berger said in a statement.

And to think I once shared a bathroom with this man.

TSA | Transportation Security Administration | Special Needs - Religious and Cultural: "Passengers are permitted to wear their head covering including those who wish to keep their faces covered during the screening process."

I'm so glad we are sensitive to the needs of religions whose practitioners cover their faces. What a wonderful county we live in.
It is likely that we will lose this culture-war, they are willing to die for their cause while we are unwilling to kill them for our cause.

And another thing

BBC NEWS | Entertainment | Elton attacks 'censorship' in US: "But, on the other hand, the Dixie Chicks got shot down in flames last year for criticising the president. They were treated like they were being un-American, when in fact they have every right to say whatever they want about him because he's freely elected, and therefore accountable"
You Tard. They were shot down by the listeners not by the government. Only governments can censor. Oh and as for the Clear Channel argument, Clear Channel stopped playing them because the listeners demanded it, not the FCC.
It's funny I never heard Elton John or Whoppie stand up for Dr. Laura.
It is every Amercian's right to act Un-Amercian, and it's my right as an Amercian to call you on the carpet for it. But you Sir Stinkypants aren't an Amercian so shut the hell up.

Who got to be post 666?

It's Economics you Idiot

BBC NEWS | Entertainment | Elton attacks 'censorship' in US: "Backlash'That's not happening now. As of this spring, there have been virtually no anti-war concerts - or anti-war songs that catch on, for that matter,' he said."

Attention Sir Elton Dunnderhead: If a fella could make a buck selling tickets to anti-war stuff he would. Right now he can't. This is not because of the Bush Adminstration it's just simple economics. Just not alot of Anti-War stuff going on in the Red States. Now if the Kids were out protesting and shutting down campuses, getting gassed then maybe you'd have a chance at selling an Anti-War song. Funny thing is most of us in the Red States give a rat's ass about Hollywood and Billboard. Well not entirely, Catwoman is hot but it ain't gonna affect my vote.

Speaking of Catwoman, where is the outrage that Catwoman is being portrayed by a black woman? We all know Catwoman is white right? Oh and another thing, Del Spooner we all know that he's a cigarette smoking, fedora wearing, white guy. What's with this black guy Will Smith playing him? Doesn't Anyone Care????

Well? <silence>

Well? <crickets chirping>

No one seems to care, is it possible that we are becoming color blind?

I still think I Robot is gonna suck

Botox Boy

DRUDGE REPORT 2004?: "After opting for a fresh-face-look for most of the campaign year, Dem presidential hopeful John Kerry has boldly gone back to wrinkles!Snaps taken of the candidate last week . . ."

I've been waiting for this Drudge photo montage since I first saw the results of the initial Botox treatment. I find myself disappointed, surley Drudge could have done a better job of putting this together. I want to compare Basset Hound Kerry, to Ken Doll Kerry, and then be able to follow the transformation back to Basset Hound.

Don't start the man had Botox. He embarresed himself and his campain handers. George Stephanopolis would never have recomended Botox.
